City Headache

Today in my Cities of Dreadful Delight seminar, we discussed a piece by Georg Simmel about aspects of the city. I am a girl completely in love with the city. Every day it infuriates me and entrances me. I think I have retained my naiive adoration of the city. Simmel talks about developing a blase attitude through living in the city and becoming indifferent to the stimulation the city has to offer. Okay, I have become a little blase (you won't survive in the city without a little seen-it-before attitude) but I don't feel that I've become desensitised. I've walked down Oxford Road a million times and every time my eyes are wide as saucers. I love it all; the smell of disinfectant under the bridge of the train station, the array of guitars in a shop window, the diverse range of people walking beside you... everything.

I think I would hate to become desensitised to the beautiful city.

Daydreams are my addiction

There are times when it feels like you have nothing. You look around you and see everything you want taken by somebody else; someone prettier, someone smarter, someone richer, even sometimes someone completely ungrateful. In times like these it is important to keep perspective. But I've never been very good at doing that, so instead, I retreat into daydreams.

Daydreams that I'm published, or even inspiring to some rookie author. Daydreams that I'm loved and treasured by someone I feel equally about. Daydreams that I need nothing but a kiss on the forehead before I go to sleep at night.

I am tired, so tired of what is behind me, trying to catch up and smother me before I can take another step. Why do I feel that I have so much to prove? I am so very lucky. I have more truth and life in me than they can ever hope for. I am seeking out the world that I hope to understand. Plus I am blessed with a wealth of good friends and excellent taste.

So it's time to stop feeling sorry for myself and take what it is I want. I'll take from you your title, since you don't want it anymore. I'll earn myself young fans, be worthy of their admiration. And you, you I shall neither win nor steal. You shall come to me all on your own, for only a desperate girl chases. You'll offer me your shaking hand, complete with temple kisses and weekend conventions.

And as for my past, you can burn in lies.

Fini!

My exams are done! All 4 down!!! Yayness!

Of course, I should be chuffed. Today's politics actually went quite well. Why aren't I chuffed? Well, my stupid fuckwit brother being a general wanker/arsehole/bastard/*insert any expletive* has put a bit of a damper on things.

If I hadn't vowed not to speak to him until he stops acting like a twelve year old I would tell him he's a real manipulative fucker. But I will maintain my silence and the upper hand of knowing that I'm not the one in the wrong here.

R.I.P Heath

I am, as I think a lot of people are, very upset about the death of Heath Ledger; one of the few actors I genuinely did have a lot of respect and liking for. I loved him most in Two Hands (hilarious Australin comedy), A Knights Tale and, of course, 10 Things I Hate About You.

It is all so sad. Such a loss of talent leaves the world weeping.

January

Well, there've been exams, exams and more exams.

Okay, exaggeration, I've only done 2 so far. 2 more to go. Nuff said.

In the meantime I'm trying to revise and more often playing Final Fantasy III on my DS. But in more exciting news; me and Vic are going to the Skins Premiere Party in Liverpool!!! YEAH BABY!

Hate

Just so you know, I hate all Wigan fans. Do take it personally if you are one of the few. Why do I hate Wigan fans? Well, first of all you're all wankers. Believe me, I know, I work there and come into contact with you lot all the time, so I'm basing this on fact, not just generalisation (c.f. if you're a Wigan fan, you probably won't understand such a big word).

Second of all, around 90% of you didn't even give a shit about WAFC until they got promoted. To the 10% who did (and I acknowledge that you exist) I salute you for sticking with such a shit team for so long.

Third of all, you all talk absolute bollocks. And before you open your mouth to argue don't because shit will just pour from your open orifice. I mean, come on! Heskey for England? Heskey couldn't even get into Wales' starting 11. Just because he's pretty good compared to the rest of your pitiful team, it doesn't mean he's talented. He's fat, past it and dopier than a blind, deaf, dumb dalmation.

I hate Wigan fans so much that I hope you go down. I hope Heskey's toes drop off. I hope you feel the humiliation that you deserve and have to go crawling back to the teams you used to support.

The Year Review - 2007

2007 - A Review

Best Album of the year: Yeah, there were PLENTY of awesome new releases this year. Up there on the list are second albums from The Killers, Rooney, Nine Black Alps and Hot Hot Heat. Hanson's eagerly awaited fourth studio album was amazing. InMe finally got around to releasing their third album and new offerings from Jimmy Eat World and Bright Eyes are always welcome! Add to that awesome debuts from The Maccabees, Mute Math and Manchester Orchestra. A close contender was, of course, the ANTHEMIC third Kings of Leon album, but of course, there could only ever be one winner. In Nothing We Trust - Reuben!

Best gig of 2007: Hmm, there haven't been quite as many to choose from this year. I think I may have to go all the way back to January and pick Scott Matthews. What a performer!

Best Film of 2007: At first I didn't really think there were many contenders, but actually, there are tons! Half-Nelson and Across The Universe both stood out, but the winner has got to be Into The Wild. I'm hoping it'll pick up more than a few Oscars.

Greatest Musical Discovery of 2007: Yikes, that is a toughie! As much as I adore Manchester Orchestra, I am torn between Mutemath and Frank Turner (all of which I saw on the Carling Stage this year at Leeds!)

Internet awesomeness in 2007: http://postsecret.blogspot.com/

Most damn awesome song of 2007: 'Chaos" by Mutemath, the anthem to my entire summer.

Best book of 2007: 'Ironside' by Holly Black just tips 'Eclipse' to the top spot. Of course, 'Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows' is everyone's number one. But Ironside deserves it.

Obsession of 2007: Hmm, well Zelda is pretty much a constant. I finally discovered 'Fruits Basket' this year, so that might be it.
